Politically Motivated Cyber Attacks On the Rise

Sometimes, the 'front lines' of some wars are less obvious than others:

They mentioned several other facts of note. One was the fact that in 2004, attacks mostly originated from Brazil. In 2005, many were Muslim defacers and most were based in Turkey. The most active was known as Iskorpitx, who single-handedly compromised 90,383 sites over a two year period.

So, when the IT folks at work tell you that network security is important, perhaps you'll quit calling them 'Chicken Little' (even if you don't work for the government). Try to keep in mind that any unprotected device can likely be compromised to attack one or more other devices (read up on Distributed Denial of Service attacks if you've any interest at all).
