Top 100 Banned Books list making the rounds...

The Valley Morning Star Online Edition (a notable source of National and International information) presents us with: "Top 100 banned books". While I'm somewhat well read, admittedly, I've not read them all. So I'll only discuss a few of those listed.

1. Scary Stories (Series) by Alvin Schwartz
Subtitled: 'My life in the White House' by G.W. Bush

2. Daddy's Roommate by Michael Willhoite
Uh, we're not going there...

3. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Or, 'My Life in the White House' by Condi Rice

5. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Oh, puhleezzz!

6. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Or, 'My Life in the White House' by Donald Rumsfeld

7. Harry Potter (Series) by J.K. Rowling
Oh yeah, too much prepubescent sex parading under the allegory of 'magic'.

11. Heather Has Two Mommies by Leslea Newman
Uh, we're still not going there...

13. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
I haven't read this one (yet), but I can't imagine anything so horrible that it couldn't be read about.

17. A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck
Or, 'The Warren Commission report on the Watts California Riots'

18. The Color Purple by Alice Walker
What's wrong with Purple? (SCA folk should refrain from commentary).

19. Sex by Madonna
Ya know... I almost have to agree with this choice.
This book is like a day at the beach...
Bathing suits just let you know too much about a person...
And so does this book.

22. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Anyone who thinks THIS book should be banned DEFINITELY needs their head examined.

23. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous
About?

26. The Stupids (Series) by Harry Allard
Ok, I can understand why a bunch of ultra-paranoid, right wing conservatives might not want their deepest secrets revealed in print.

28. The New Joy of Gay Sex by Charles Silverstein
Since this book is only likely to elicit the interest of those inclined towards the subject, I don't know why all those tighty-righty homophobes are worried about THEIR kids reading this...

29. Anastasia Krupnik (Series) by Lois Lowry
Who?

30. The Goats by Brock Cole
Translated from the orignal Greek

33. Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan
Yeah, well... This MIGHT encourage some child to actually consider it. NOT!

37. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
Heaven forbid that the notion that a (more) male dominated society might be even worse than the one women are currently subjected to, effectively turning them (back) into chattle for breeding.
